Remembering Mrs. Anne Marden

We are deeply sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs. Anne Marden, Honorary Patron of KELY Support Group on 31 May 2022.

Mrs. Anne Marden devoted her life to making a difference in the Hong Kong community. Her association with KELY Support Group began nearly thirty years ago, soon after our establishment in 1991. When she first heard that our founder was a young person, she realised that having “peer support” elements could be a breakthrough in youth services.  She also believed that listening to and working with the young people was a unique way of supporting them.

"We at KELY are sincerely grateful to have had Anne as our Honorary Patron. She was a true champion of Hong Kong’s young people, and when I met with Anne over the years to update her on KELY’s work, she was not only interested in understanding the issues that impacted on young people, she was genuinely interested to see how she could be of help."  ─ Fern Ngai, Chair of KELY Support Group

“During the last 30 years we shared many happy times, and a few challenges, along the way, and it was good to know that Anne was always there to support and encourage our work with young people. The article shared by her family, rightly shows and demonstrates the wonderful breadth, commitment, and involvement that Anne provided to the Hong Kong community, and the love that the community had for her in return, a fact that the family can always treasure. It is a legacy many aspire to attain.”   ─ Andrew Jones, Emeritus Chairman of KELY Support Group

Anne’s passion and compassion for rights of children, special needs education and marginalised communities has been inspiring, and she leaves us with a strong, enduring legacy of service and dedication. She has touched the hearts of so many people across Hong Kong and we can’t thank her enough.

She will be sadly missed by all of us at KELY. Our hearts are with her family during this time of sorrow.
