Jackie's Story
A Story of Hope and Giving Back
Jackie's journey with KELY has been nothing short of inspirational. From the days when we first supported her through our intervention programmes to now, where her story exemplifies the impact of compassion and support.
Jackie dedicated herself as a volunteer, pouring her time and energy into helping others, especially in KELY’s events and activities. She is driven by a belief that it's time to give back – a belief rooted in her own experiences of receiving life-changing support.
"GO KELY!"
"Definitely support KELY. They are absolutely wonderful.
They do so much good for so much of the youth in Hong Kong.
It is definitely one of the best programmes to support and I would highly recommend it."
Jackie, KELY Volunteer & Alumna
I needed some help and KELY Support Group actually had counsellors and psychiatrists that offered help. He used to come to my home and sit with me and counsel me and talk with me. For me it was a really personal experience and I've always been very appreciative of being able to have that support.
It was not a great situation because I did end up in hospital. And actually it was, I believe, the hospital or my doctor's clinic that actually reached out to KELY for my benefit. I have to say it was really great to be able to have someone that would just sit and listen and talk with me and guide me and give me support.
That's what I believe KELY is all about. KELY Support Group helps youth in Hong Kong is there for them when they need. Not judgmental at all, and guide them wherever they can. I still think the foundations are the same.
I think I got more involved with KELY Support Group in the last few years.
Rather than actually being someone that needed KELY to help me survive, I now am really thankful that I'm able to give up my time whenever there's any KELY events anywhere. As soon as I'm notified of the event and whether I can volunteer, I always, always do volunteer because I really appreciate what they did for me and I'd love to be able to help other youths as well.
Recently I helped KELY at the Rugby Sevens and that in itself was quite an experience. It was amazing for me to see actually how much support KELY was giving all these youths and we do know what they get like at social events like that. And for us to actually be able to have the tents and the zone out area for actual youths to come and just lie there and give them water and just make sure they were okay and they weren't in any danger. That was really great. That was wonderful for me. Cause I know that we helped a lot during that weekend.
I think with all the events, you know, you learn something different all the time. It's so nice to be able to talk to young people, to educate them more, to make them more aware of the dangers, just to be there as a huge support system. Like I said, even the Rugby Sevens or even when we're doing events, and people come up and they ask questions. The fact that we're able to help them understand more about it, that's just great.
Definitely, if I was to be asked, I would say KELY Support Group, absolutely number one to go to for that kind of thing.
Myself, you know, growing up in Hong Kong, there are a lot of addictions, there are a lot of temptations. I know, I went through it all, so I speak from experience and just knowing that there is something like KELY Support Group here is great.
To be able to offer more programmes, do workshops, do more kind of things that the youth can get involved in or actually attend, even if it's lectures or even if it's stuff like that. It would be amazing for them to have the additional money because then they could advertise it more, print brochures and pamphlets, distribute around the schools and educate children more and the youth of Hong Kong, I think it would be wonderful.
Think back to your own youth. Remember those pivotal moments when someone extended a helping hand or offered a word of encouragement that changed your course? Jackie understands the profound effect such support can have, how it can transform lives and instill hope.
Today, young people face even greater challenges with the rapid growth of technology and social media. They need our support more than ever. Your donation to the KELY Support Group can help them navigate these turbulent times with confidence and resilience. By contributing, you are not just giving money; you are offering a lifeline, much like the ones that might have shaped your own journey.
