RiseUp
RiseUp aims to help ethnic minority young people from deprived districts in Hong Kong develop life skills and resilience along with creative photography skills. Participants attend weekly, interactive workshops that focus on a series of life skills including goal-setting, problem-solving and teamwork. They go on to learn technical and creative skills in photography. Corporate volunteers are an important part of this process as mentors who help participants gain skills to access better opportunities in life.
Participants use the new knowledge and skills to express their own and other’s experience of life in Hong Kong through photography, including both obstacles and opportunities. The programme ends with an exhibition in a gallery or event space, showcasing the work of the students.
KELY has delivered this programme every year since 2015 and you can see some of the photographs that participants have produced here.
