Mind-blowing Behind the "Door"

This summer, we are so glad to have 26 EM youth interns finishing their 4-week internship in our Open Door Work Placement Programme. They worked in various industries and learned different new skills throughout their journeys. We are delighted to have Rashi and Angel, working in ME Creative Productions, share their internship experience with us.

Rashi, Secondary 6 student, Indian

My name is Rashi, and I’m a Form 6 student from India. I heard about this programme from a friend who participated last year, and I knew I had to apply to gain a unique experience and explore different fields.

My employer, Erwin Cheng, has provided me with valuable opportunities to learn about the workplace and the film industry. Through this experience, I have developed essential communication skills, as well as a sense of responsibility and time management. I’ve realised that effective organisation is crucial for completing tasks efficiently. Erwin has been very accommodating with my workload and has taught me valuable skills such as comic script writing and video editing. I believe these experiences and knowledge will undoubtedly help in building my future.

Additionally, the KELY Support Group has been incredibly helpful, guiding us on how to present ourselves and supporting us at every step of the journey.

Angel, Secondary 6 student, Filipino-Chinese

My name is Angel, and I’m a Filipino-Chinese student currently in Secondary 6. I learned about the Open Door Programme during a KELY workshop and decided to apply to gain experience and become familiar with the work environment.

My role included being an illustrator and video editor. Before onboarding, I expected the internship to be strict and intimidating, since it was my first experience in this setting. However, on my first day, I was pleasantly surprised to find the work environment to be relaxed and welcoming, which helped me feel more at ease. Throughout my internship, I encountered some challenges, particularly with using Adobe programmes and the Wacom. However, I took the opportunity to learn at my own pace, and I consider this as my greatest achievement.
